Sorry to say folks, but the time for Runehq has ended.
We are sorry to do this but RuneHQ is shutting down effective
immeadiately.
The site has turned into a constant source of stress and frustration for us. It has gotten too big and
we cannot seem to find adequate help to maintain it.
Donations have trailed off and our ad clicks were down to 2 or
3 a day and not bringing in any revenue. This would make it hard on us to continue funding the site anyway.
We hope
you all the best and hope you all luck with your Runescape endevors. We hope you find a good place to call home.
It
was fun while it lasted, but sorry to say this is the end for RuneHQ.
22nd February 2005 - Wilderness Capes, and Changes
Wilderness capes
To help you identify friend and foe, there are now several enterprising merchants spread throughout the wilderness, each
selling different Team Capes.
When worn, these capes will make anyone else wearing the same cape appear Green on the minimap, and everyone else will
appear White.
Also, those players with the same cape will have their Attack option moved onto the right-click menu, while everyone else's
Attack option will be left-click. This won't stop you from being able to hurt people, but it should help prevent those accidents
that can happen in the heat of combat.
New graphics in the Lumbridge area
You may have noticed our graphics team have been getting better, and some of our new members' areas are looking really
impressive; therefore they have decided to spend a bit of time improving the graphics of the area around Lumbridge and Draynor
Village to give a better first impression to new players.
Crystal bow changes
There is now a third roving elf in the forests of Isafdar. She will create a new crystal bow or shield from a seed when
your existing equipment runs out of charges.
The first time that you take the seed to the elf, she will charge the standard price for either the crystal bow or shield.
However, every time you go back to her she will reduce the price, but she will not go below 180k for the bow or 150k for the
shield.
Crystal equipment now also has 2500 charges before it reverts to its seed.
HAM!
A growing feeling of resentment has boiled over because the King of Varrock isn't seen to be taking a strong enough stance
about the increasing monster population.
A new militant group has emerged calling themselves Humans Against Monsters, (aka HAM) and they've taken up residence in
one of the ruined buildings near Lumbridge. Any would-be thieves might find perfect pickings amongst a rabble like this -
but beware, you may find you've got more to deal with than a clip round the ear for your misdemeanor.
Changes to the Magic Shortbow
When we first launched RuneScape 2, one of our main concerns was to make the game less melée oriented, and to give our
players the choice of ranging or maging rather than feeling forced to take the warrior's route. This meant we had to increase
the effectiveness of certain elements of the game, some of which we now realise were slightly overcompensated for.
After months of careful consideration and discussion, we have decided to reduce the effectiveness of the magic shortbow's
special attack. Each double shot will now use 55% of the special attack bar, rather than the previous 35%.
It is clear to us that our initial attempts to balance the PK triangle were biased towards the ranger (specifically the
amount of damage that could be done over a very short amount of time), so we have decided that reducing the rate in which
the shortbow specials were used is the best solution. Obviously we're not expecting all of you to embrace this change overnight,
but it was necessary.
Over the next few months we will be releasing several improvements and additions to the PK triangle with mages, rangers
and fighters all receiving new equipment to play with.
Obviously, it is very important to address the current issues in the balance of the game before releasing any new equipment.
We will continue to do this to make sure the 3 classes remain equally powerful.

Ghosts Ahoy, Slayer Update and St. Louis Servers

The new guide for Ghosts Ahoy can be found here. ______________________________
15th February 2005 - Ghosts Ahoy and Slayer Update
Ghosts Ahoy!
The Morytania swamp waters have further receeded, providing access to a town called Port Phasmatys. Head eastwards from
Canifis, and provided you can survive the vampires and leeches in the swamps, you should have no trouble finding the place.
Port Phasmatys itself has many of the facilities you would expect in a thriving RuneScape town, including a bank, a furnace,
an inn and a general store. However, unlike most RuneScape towns, Port Phasmatys is almost entirely populated by ghosts. The
citizens of Port Phasmatys have unwittingly consigned themselves to an immortal existence, trapped forever in this world as
unwilling ghosts. Players can try and help resolve this tragic situation in the Ghosts Ahoy quest. Necrovarus, Lord of the
Temple of Phasmatys, holds the key to the door into the next world. Can you convince him to open it and set the trapped souls
free? To the north of the town is the Ectofunctus. This provides a way to get more prayer experience from the various bones
in the game. It is also a source of ectotokens, used as currency by many of the local ghosts. Speak to the ghost disciples
and they will give you more details about how to use the Ectofunctus.
Slayer Reassignment
Thank you for all the constructive feedback we have received on the slayer skill. Players can now get a replacement task
for their slayer assignment if they really don't like the one they have been given. We didn't want to make it so that people
could just keep on rejecting their assignment until they got given the creature they wanted to train on anyway. Part of our
aim for the slayer skill was to increase the variety in combat training and give players an incentive to explore new training
areas. That is an element we are very keen to keep. Therefore if you currently have a high level slayer assignment that you
feel you can't do, you can now replace it with a low level assignment by talking to the slayer master in Burthorpe. However
if you already have a low level assignment then he won't replace it for you again, so you can't keep cycling what you've got
to achieve. It is also worth noting that the Burthorpe slayer master will sometimes tell you to kill Kalphites. Do not worry,
this does not mean you will have to kill the extremely strong Kalphite Queen. There are lots of lower level Kalphites in the
game.
8th February 2005 - New St Louis worlds online
We've just finished another round of upgrades on our servers to keep up with the number of people playing RuneScape. We've
just put 9 new worlds online. 8 of them are located in St Louis which is another new location for us. We've also added another
world to the UK, and moved world 42 to be a members world. The net result of all this is: # free users have 4 more worlds
# members have 5 more worlds Enjoy the extra space! Andrew

Forum and server performance problems resolved
Saturday, Feb 12, 2005
News ID: 00228
Ok, the forum is finally up and running again. Zipservers, our server provider found some issues with settings and tweaked
some configurations to help out performance.
This has seemed to help as far as we can tell.
Not sure how the
forum got hosed up, but it is again working. I am still trying to find out what cause the permission errors this time, let's
hope this will finally be resolved.

Fenkenstrain, Agility, Slayer, and Prayer book changes
Monday, Jan 31, 2005
News ID: 00223
Update 2/1/05: The new Slayer Skill Guide has been uploaded on RuneHQ! ____________________________________
Dr Fenkenstrain, master and sole occupant of the castle to the northeast of Canifis, needs a new servant to go on a dark
errand for him. Do you have the stomach to help Fenkenstrain and his twisted purpose?
Agility area
A werewolf agility area has opened beneath the Haunted Woods of Morytania. There is a level 60 obstacle course and a level
25 skullball course. Beware, though - the agility area is for werewolves only.
Slayer changes
People have told us they don't like how in multicombat areas they could do most of the damage to a creature and then someone
would deal the killing blow and be counted as the slayer of the creature.
We have changed this. Now both the person
who dealt the killing blow and the person who did the most damage will be counted as the slayer for the purposes of their
kill counts. (If you did both these things you will only count as having killed the creature once though.) The slayer xp will
be split evenly between the two players.
Giants have been renamed to hill giants. This is to make it clear that when
the slayer masters tell you to kill hill giants, they don't mean moss giants, fire giants or ice giants.
We have added
more hill giants and hellhounds to cope with the increased demand for these creatures that has been created by the slayer
skill. There are now more hellhounds in the Taverley dungeon and some south of the Wilderness axe hut. There are hill giants
added to the north of the observatory and south-west of the gnome stronghold.
People may have noticed last week we
also decreased the totals of bronze dragons and steel dragons being assigned to decrease crowding on those creatures.
Prayer books
You can now check your prayer books to see which pages you have added. Just right click on them and choose the "check"
option".
